保育的定義是什麼?

搞了大半輩子的保育工作，好像有點得了巴金森症，也許是臺灣媒體對"保育"濫用的太過，流浪狗貓收容，動物權，慈悲為懷，禁止殺生‧‧‧我都搞不清保育是啥了？保育是英文conservation嗎? 好在有全能的Google我就收集一點保育的定義來重溫舊夢一下........

保育 - 野生動物保育法：”係指基於物種多樣性與自然生態平衡之原則，對於野生動物所為保護、復育、管理之行為。”筆者按:好像有一點不著邊際，沒有目標。

Conservation - From section 3(3) of the Federal Endangered Species Act: "The terms "conserve," "conserving," and "conservation" mean to use and the use of all methods and procedures which are necessary to bring any endangered species or threatened species to the point at which the measures provided under this Act are no longer necessary. Such methods and procedures include, but are not limited to, all activities associated with scientific resources management such as research, census, law enforcement, habitat acquisition and maintenance, propagation, live trapping, and transportation, and, in the extraordinary case where population pressures within a given ecosystem cannot be otherwise relieved, may include regulated taking." 筆者按:這是我國野生動物保育法該借鏡的地方。

Conservation - British Columbia Ministry of Forests and Range: "The management or control of human use of resources (biotic and abiotic) and activities on the planet, in an attempt to restore, enhance, protect, and sustain the quality and quantity of a desired mix of species, and ecosystem conditions and processes for present and future generations."

Conservation- California Forest Products Commission: "The protection, improvement and wise use of natural resources to provide the greatest social and economic value for the present and future."

Conservation - The Live Reef Food Fish Trade: (a) "The judicious use and management of nature and natural resources for the benefit of human society and for ethical reasons;" (b) "The management of human use of the biosphere so that it may yield the greatest sustainable benefit to current generations while maintaining its potential to meet the needs and aspirations of future generations. Thus conservation is positive, embracing preservation, maintenance, sustainable utilization, restoration, and enhancement of the natural environment."

Conservation - National Parks of Canada: "Careful preservation and protection of ecological processes and biodiversity of the environment."

Conservation - US Army Corps of Engineers: "The preservation of resources through efficient and careful use.”筆者按:不脫軍人本色。

Conservation - The Business of Tourism Management: Can be broadly interpreted as action taken to protect and preserve the natural world from harmful features of tourism, including pollution and overexploitation of resources. 筆者按:國內搞生態旅行的朋友該想想這個定義。

Conservation - Australian Broadcast Company: “Protecting, maintaining or restoring the environment, and keeping it safe from destruction or degradation.”

Conservation - The Purple Martin Conservation Association: “The wise use of natural resources, including birds and other organisms, whether for humanitarian reasons or to prevent the extinction of valuable and/or aesthetically desirable forms.”
